ABOUT US

CDAS is engaged in advocacy, law reform, and education in matters relating to criminal defence work in the justice system. The Society was founded by members of the British Columbia criminal defence bar who identified a gap in the area of law reform for criminal justice issues specifically affecting criminal defence lawyers and their clients.

We believe that the criminal defence bar can offer a unique perspective through intervening in appropriate court hearings and lobbying for changes to the justice system in BC. As criminal defence lawyers, we are particularly concerned with the rule of law, the independence of the bar, and the constitutional rights of accused individuals. We will focus the work of the Society in a manner that recognizes the fundamental importance of these principles.
